SNEAK PEEK—PORYGON

I mentioned a little while back that I was participating in the Pokémon Battle Royale show at Light Grey Art Lab next month. The show paired up 151 illustrators with the 151 original Pokémon and I chose #137–Porygon. The show opens on April 20 in Minneapolis, so if you live in the area please feel free to come and revel with other Pokémon nerds! Chelsey and I will be driving up from Milwaukee for the opening. I finished up my piece over the weekend and wanted to share a little teaser. I'll post another update next week with a few more details.

P.S. Light Grey Art Lab currently has a Kickstarter going to raise funds to add a computer lab to their space for teaching art and design classes. It's a great space run by some amazing and talented people, just sayin'. If you're interested in learning more or backing them you can do so right here

ILLO CRUSH

It was a lovely surprise this morning to go and check one of my favourite illustration blogs and see my beetle illustration peeking onto the page! Amy has started a new feature called Illo Crush where she asks her favourite bloggers to share some of their favourite illustrators. Mallory (from one of my other favourite blogs to check for illustration inspiration) is kicking off the series and was kind enough to include me in her list. You can see the rest of her picks right here.

The Desktop Wallpaper Project + Process Post

The Fox is Black is a fantastic blog that highlights a whole range of subjects in the design world. Every week, they offer a new free desktop wallpaper as part of their Desktop Wallpaper Project. Ten Paces and Draw has been partnering with them since last year to offer a monthly wallpaper. For the month of March, I created this wallpaper based off of Julianna Brion's sketch which you can download for free right here. There is also a process post if you are curious to see how I work! Thanks very much to Bobby and Alyssa for bringing me in on this!

INTERVIEW: PUNCTUATION MARK

I was very pleased to help kick off a new interview series on Elie's lovely blog earlier this week. If you want to learn a bit more about my influences, workspace, or favourite place in the world you can read my interview right here. Thanks Elie for having me!

The Everywhere Project

This was my contribution to The Everywhere Project, a collaborative design project based on the locations in the folk song "I've Been Everywhere". The project is curated by the wonderful Adrian Walsh. I  chose to represent Baraboo, a town about two hours northwest of my current home of Milwaukee. The Ringling Bros. Circus was founded there in 1884 and wintered there for 34 years until they merged with the Barnum & Bailey Show. It has been declared a National Historic Landmark Site and home to Circus World, an expansive museum of circus artifacts. I have yet to visit but hopefully this year will be the year!

Be sure to check to The Everywhere Project for regular updates! There's a stellar list of participating artists. And many thanks to Adrian for including me!

Friggin' Archaeologist

Another one for Ten Paces and Draw. This week's theme was "When I Grow Up". This was my final illustration based on a sketch by the awesome Natalie Andrewson. You can check out the rest of the illustrations right here. (I'm going to have the Indiana Jones theme song stuck in my head all weekend).
