UH OH, IT'S MAGIC

Any project where I can count this video as legitimate research is a good project.

I was psyched to participate in the second Harry Potter swap on Ten Paces and Draw this week! I got this fantastic sketch from Alyssa.

And here is my sketch contribution that Alyssa finished up so nicely. The grrimmmmmmmmm.......

A few Malfoy outtakes from my sketchbook.

And, y'know, a reference shot. Thank you Lilly for letting me hug you awkwardly in the name of research.

LET'S DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN

It's musicals week on Ten Paces and Draw! I got to bring Karina Rehrbehn's Rocky Horror sketch to completion. I've had the Time Warp stuck in my head all week as a result. You can check out the rest of the illustrations right here.

For my own sketch, I had a really tough time narrowing down what musical (or even aspect of musicals) I wanted to pay tribute to. I decide to go with Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (brilliant suggestion from Lilly). Every time I watch it I notice something new. (An American in Paris was my runner-up choice).

DOWNTON ABBEY

Ten Paces and Draw has a Downton Abbey themed redesign on the blog today in honour of the North American premiere of series 3 tomorrow. I contributed an illustration of one of my favourite elements of the show, the Abbey of course! You can see the rest of the contributions right here. Thanks always to the awesome Natalie Andrewson for organizing!

MIYAZAKI SWAP

You may or may not have heard because I think I sufficiently pimped out this swap enough on Twitter, but I guest curated a Miyazaki-themed swap for Ten Paces and Draw. It was pretty much an excuse for me to rally some of my favourite illustration peeps to nerd out together and draw some Studio Ghibli fanart.  I kept Chelsey Holeman's sketch of Kiki to finish up for myself! Here's how it turned out. You can check out the rest of the swap art right here.

YIP YIP!

I seem to have been bitten by the fanart bug lately, which I am ok with. Pokémon and Arrested Development, now Avatar! This was my contribution to the Avatar edition of the Character Redesign Project on the Ten Paces and Draw blog. This awesome series has been spearheaded by the wonderful Natalie Andrewson and has included so many great themes already (Kill Bill, Wes Anderson, The Avengers, Game of Thrones, to name a few). It is pretty much an opportunity for us illustrators to nerd out about our favourite pop culture characters.

When I saw the Avatar redesign posted, I knew I had to participate. Truth be told, I really chose Aang just so I could draw Appa and Momo. You can see the rest of the Avatar redesigns right here. And be sure to keep your eyes on the blog for future redesigns! There are some kick ass themes coming up (seriously, it was very hard not to sign up for every single one).

HEY ADOPTED BROTHER....

My favourite theme yet on Ten Paces and Draw was posted this morning. This week the theme was....... Arrested Development! I had a blast finishing up Nat's sketch. Too many good juice moments to choose from. It was a bit of a sparse turn-out this week, but you can check out the other illustrations right here.

The Desktop Wallpaper Project + Process Post

The Fox is Black is a fantastic blog that highlights a whole range of subjects in the design world. Every week, they offer a new free desktop wallpaper as part of their Desktop Wallpaper Project. Ten Paces and Draw has been partnering with them since last year to offer a monthly wallpaper. For the month of March, I created this wallpaper based off of Julianna Brion's sketch which you can download for free right here. There is also a process post if you are curious to see how I work! Thanks very much to Bobby and Alyssa for bringing me in on this!

Friggin' Archaeologist

Another one for Ten Paces and Draw. This week's theme was "When I Grow Up". This was my final illustration based on a sketch by the awesome Natalie Andrewson. You can check out the rest of the illustrations right here. (I'm going to have the Indiana Jones theme song stuck in my head all weekend).
